Our Story & Heart

At J-Bay Scuba, the ocean isn’t just where we work—it’s our home. For over a decade, we’ve spent nearly every single day in and around the waters of Jeffreys Bay and St. Francis Bay.

We didn’t just start a business; we invested our time, our resources, and our lives into becoming the local specialists you can count on. When you step onto our boat, you aren’t just a client; you’re in the company of friends who truly care about your experience and your safety.

Paul van Jaarsveld – Owner & Skipper

I first fell in love with Jeffreys Bay as a visitor, eventually moving my family here in 2006. My diving journey began in 2009, and back then, I never dreamed I’d one day become the local operator sharing these reefs with the world.

Despite the challenges of starting small, J-Bay Scuba has grown through a pure passion for the sea. My experience isn’t just under the water, but on top of it too—serving as an NSRI Coxswain and volunteer, and logging over 5,000 nautical miles sailing the South African coast since 2015. When I’m not at my “day job” in software engineering, you’ll find me surfing, spearfishing, or running along our beautiful coastline.
